On July 1 , 2017, at 2:30 a.m., Karen Stroud Humphrey, “Ma Karen” was called home by her heavenly Father. She finally won her short battle with cancer.
Born on December 4, 1959, in Kinston, Karen was a member of Gray Branch Church and a stay-at-home mom. Karen was a well-known baby sitter for most of her life. She was known as “Ma Karen” to “her children” she kept. Karen touched each child’s life in a special way we may never even know. Hundreds of children were graced by her presence over the many years of her life. Those children will never forget her love for them.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Smith Stroud, father, Haywood Earl Stroud, Sr. and brother, Baby Boy Stroud.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Clarence Humphrey of the home; daughter, Christy Nicole Thompson and husband Joseph Garry Thompson, Jr. of Deep Run; son, Matthew Brent Humphrey of the home; daughter, Elizabeth Morgan Humphrey of the home; brother, Haywood Earl Stroud, Jr. and wife Debbie of Grifton; sister, Catherine Stroud Ewell and husband Larry of Deep Run; brother Michel Deran Stroud of Deep Run; and special aunt, Sheila Smith Burkett of Kinston; grandchildren, Justin Thompson, Ty Thigpen and Sara Thigpen all of Deep Run.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Pink Hill Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Pink Hill Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Brown and Pastor Bennett Sims officiating. Burial will follow at the Humphrey-Harper Cemetery in Deep Run.
