James W. Hemphill, 82, of Raleigh died Tuesday, April 25.

He was born April 15, 1935 to the late James Howard Hemphill and Myrtle Evelyn Whitaker in Canton, NC.

Visitation services will be held by Pink Hill Funeral Home on Friday April 28th at 1pm in Pink Hill, NC. The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm followed by burial at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 6th at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC at 4pm.

James graduated from Canton High School in 1954. He married his loving wife, LouGene Smith of sixty years on February 16, 1957. James served 8 1/2 years in the US Air Force. He then graduated from North Carolina State University in 1965. He was a member of the NC State Wolfpack Club and the Millbrook Masonic Lodge. He retired from Martin Marietta.

James is survived by his wife, LouGene Smith Hemphill of Raleigh; son James (Jimmy) F. Hemphill and daughter-in-law Betsy B. Hemphill of Albertson; son, Dan Hemphill of Garner; a granddaughter Lauren E. Snyder married to Adam C. Snyder of Mebane; granddaughter, Allison J. Hemphill of LaGrange; two step grandchildren, Bobby L. Bass Jr. married to Shanda Bass of Kenansville and Johnny D Bass of Albertson; two great grandchildren Elijah C. Snyder and Mackenzie Myers and six step great grandchildren.
