Gloria Rouse King



Gloria Rouse King of Kinston, N.C. passed away on Wednesday, April 19,
2017 surrounded by her loving family. Gloria was born March 3, 1949,
the daughter of the late Elbert and Gatha Rouse. She was a graduate of
North Lenoir High School and obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s
degrees from East Carolina University. She worked as systems analyst
for Lenox China in Kinston and later was a professor of Information
Systems at NC Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount from where she retired
due to illness in 2012. Gloria was a long-time member of Grace
Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and produced the church
program. She enjoyed playing golf with friends and family, driving to
the mountains in fall and sharing family stories with anyone who would
listen. Gloria was most proud of her children, building a successful
family business with Bobby, and the many students she mentored through
college. She was preceded in death by brothers Uzzell, Thurman, Bobby
Lee, and Elbert. Gloria is survived by her high school sweetheart and
loyal care giver, Bobby King, with whom she would have celebrated 50
years of marriage in June; daughter Dana King; son Douglas King and
his fiancée Courtney Sherman; sister Clara Algar; brothers Jimmy and
Bill; and loyal canine Lady. Funeral service officiated by Pastor Bill Bradley will be held
at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21 at Grace Baptist Church followed by visitation. A graveside service will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Park on Saturday, April 22 at 11:00 am.
