Lynn Harper
Albertson
Lynn R. Harper of the Duplin County community of Albertson passed from this life on Monday, February 13, 2017. He was 83 years of age. Lynn is survived by his wife of 59 years, Juanita Wray Harper and his children Randy and wife Melissa of Albertson, Karen Harper Walker and husband David of Greenville, NC, and Kimberly also of Greenville. Lynn was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Brittany Walker Edwards, Courtney Walker, Meagan Harper, Savannah Harper, Brooke Walker Austin, Zoie Harper, Lynn R. Harper II, Claire Harper and 2 great grandchildren, Thomas Edwards and Evelyn Edwards.
Lynn was a proud alumni of B. F. Grady High School where he was a standout athlete and starred for the boys’ basketball team. His love of sports carried over into adulthood where he later became well known as a sports official, officiating basketball, football, baseball, softball and volleyball. He was also an avid fisherman with his favorite fishing destination being the old Scotch Bonnet Pier on Topsail Island. Lynn spent most of his professional life as a contract poultry farmer, growing tom turkeys for local milling companies.
Lynn was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, most of which was spent as a member of the Albertson, NC Ward of the Church. He served the Church, his Ward and the members in many capacities as a lay leader. Lynn strived to live by the creed, “blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”
Lynn was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, Eva Margaret Harper and Rodolph Dennis Harper, Sr., 2 brothers, RD Harper Jr., Walton Harper and a sister, Margaret Harper Haymore. His family was dear to him and he is survived by 3 sisters, Frances Peedin of Raleigh, Pat Patton of Albertson and American Fork, Utah, Faye Young of Richfield, Utah and 5 brothers, Leland of Orem, Utah, Vernon of Orange Park, Florida, Richard of American Fork, Utah, Gary of Las Vegas, Nevada and Michael of Duncan, South Carolina.
Lynn’s family will receive friends and relatives at the Pink Hill Funeral Home Friday night, February 17, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at the Albertson Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Saturday morning, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 am. A veteran of the United States Army, Lynn will be interred with military honors at the Community Mausoleum in Pink Hill.
